Tudor fireplaces are traditionally more restrained than the later decorative styles. Tudor-inspired fireplace surrounds and mantels are usually made from either sandstone or limestone, and mounted around the central hearth or chimney. In addition to their indoor applications in homes, Tudor styles are also well-suited to outdoor settings. Certain types of limestone and travertine are more forgiving when weathering elements outside, while the more porous stones like marble and other types of limestone are better suited for indoors.
