Our Story
Born from humble beginnings, RED was founded over 40 years ago by Richard Ellis. RED initially specialised in fine architectural antiques, operating from a single showroom and adjoining workshop in Melbourne, before later expanding to a showroom in Sydney. As interest in the local antique market grew, the marble and stone fireplaces Richard sourced during his buying trips to London quickly became a cornerstone of his collection.
After mastering the intricate techniques of restoring antique surrounds, Richard began crafting a range of period reproduction chimneypieces alongside his own original fireplace designs. Driven by his passion for fireplaces, encyclopaedic knowledge, and deep appreciation for Classical Architecture, the collection grew to encompass a diverse array of period styles. Today, it stands as the largest selection of reproduction fireplace designs available in Australia.
