The Pall Mall 98 is based on a captivating 18th-century French fireplace in the Louis XV style. A sweeping serpentine shelf crowns the richly decorated frieze, centred by a floral shell cartouche with carved scrollwork and flanked by inset panels and bold C-scroll end blocks. Ribbed concave shells and scrolling details continue through the canted jambs, giving the surround its distinctly palatial Rococo form.
